Motorola RIZR Z6 - First Phone to Run an "Open" OS

That's right folks! Motorola's RIZR Z6 runs Linux, Symbian OS or Windows on a single- rather than dual-processor architecture. Clearly Linux is making AMAZING progress!! ! This is really groundbreaking! For two reasons actually; the first being that Linux has moved onto mainstream mobile devices and the second being that these new non-microsoft phones are compatible with Windows computers - this shows that maybe microsoft is growing soft and accepting its defeat and so compensating by working closely with other companies to make different products compatible with their little OS monopoly.

Obvious pros of this phone are low cost and less power needed to run the OS and so it should run faster. My dad has this PDA and OMG it's got windows on it and its WAY slow! Speaking of pda's, rumor has it that Palmsource is adapting their Palm UI for mobile linux and that's not all! Nokia also has plans in store for linux! Seems everyone is jumping off the Windows ship. Damn, I have got to get a mac or something! lol

The RIZR Z6, demonstrated at the CES show and expected to ship by mid year. Motorola will also add a new, faster Linux user interface, called JUIX (pronounced "juice"). Alright so keep on the look out for this little toy and anyone who has it better tell everyone about it!

oh I know, I totally agree! I'd also love to see a full google OS, not for my desktop, but for my pda. It would be super handy with gmail, google earth, google calendar, notebook, maps, picasa, video, documents and spreadsheets, and of course BLOGGER. That would really be kick ass!
